This fix was made not by myself, but by James Schumacher and posted on the TeamBG board at http://www.teambg.com. However downloads are no longer available there as so much bandwidth was being used; I am able to offer it as luckily I still had the important files themselves although not the auto-installer (you still have to point to the BG2 Override folder with it, and it is several times the size of the files it delivers, so no loss.)

The files Wspatck.2da and Wspecial.2da fix the Grand Mastery problem with Baldur's Gate 2. When a character uses five proficiency slots in a weapon (this is only available to pure warrior-class characters; multi-class fighters or classes such as paladins or rangers may only use two proficiency slots per weapon) moving from four to five is supposed to reduce THAC0 with that weapon by one, increase attacks per round from 3/2 to 5/2, and increase damage by 1. It doesn't, only increasing damage by one, so isn't that "Grand" and is rather a waste of a proficiency point.

This is as per AD&D specs. Grand Mastery was correctly implemented in Baldur's Gate 1 and Icewind Dale, but was changed in Baldur's Gate 2 for "game balance."

To use:

Simply unzip the files Wspatck.2da and Wspecial.2da to your BG2 Override folder, and restart BG2 (if it's already running.)
